Risto house is a turn of the century home located in downtown Toronto. Located in an area seeing slow transitional change there is a blend of artists, creators and generational Portuguese & Italian families. This house seeks to preserve that history in the form of a custom mosaic derived from the original plaque on the exterior of the house. White metal elements like the oven hood and integrated bench provide sculptural forms that remain subtle in the narrow footprint of the building. The backyard features custom designed white concrete pavers, fire pit and raised planter beds framed by a cedar pergola. These architectural elements strive to create essentially an outdoor ‘room’ as an extension of this small house.
